Chiang Mai Flower Festival

This annual festival is held for three days during the first week of February. It celebrates the rich diversity of plants for which Chiang Mai and northern Thailand are famous, focusing on temperate- zone specimens, which are at their best during this cool month.

Along the streets are displays of flowers, handicraft sales, flower competitions and beauty contests. Exquisite floral floats, portraying many themes, make their way down Tha Pae Road. This colorful event is fun for all the family and makes for some great photo taking opportunities.

Every year during the first weekend in February the city comes alive with Chiang Mai Flower Festival. The city is awash with vibrant colors ranging from electric orange and lilac colors of the bougainvillea to the velvety blossoms of petunias in all shades of pink, white and purple.

Homes and shop owners alike line the city streets with colorful flower boxes. The sheer profusion of color that the flower festival and carnival brings to Chiang Mai aptly gives the city its name "Rose of the North”.
